Sushi King, Malaysia’s largest Japanese chain restaurant today celebrated its 21 years in Malaysia by giving back to Malaysians in a uniquely Malaysian event. The celebration saw Sushi King making a special contribution of RM21,000 to children’s home Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia to help support the 55 orphans residing in the home. The donation was handed over by Tan Sri Dato Seri Fumihiko Konishi, Founder and Executive Chairman of Texchem Resources Berhad, which owns Sushi King, to Dato’ Faridah Omar Shah, the Founder and Chairman of Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir Malaysia.

Roll...roll...roll... 70-foot maki sushi rolling in action !

The celebration also featured the creation of a 70-foot maki roll by a team of Sushi King chefs, led by Head Chef Takeshi Torita. Joining in the rolling process was Tan Sri Konishi, Akihiko Hijioka, President; COO of Texchem Restaurant System, 30 personnel from Texchem Restaurant System, local personalities Izzue Islam, Kamal Adli, Sazzy Falak, Cha Cha Maembong, Elizabeth Tan and Ammar Titan, Dato’ Faridah and a team of five personnel and 20 children from the home, and representatives from the Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

The 70-foot maki roll was made using 18kg of rice, 4kg of cucumbers, 150 pieces of seaweed, 50 eggs, 180 kanikama fish cake sticks and 3kg of capelin roe. Once the maki roll was completed, it was cut up and distributed to patrons at Sunway Pyramid, to thank all Malaysians for supporting Sushi King.

The Japanese-Malaysian ties were further highlighted with a unique Fusion Cultural Drums performance by Malaysian Drum Symphony featuring kompang and Japanese taiko drums. “The success of Sushi King over 21 years has been enabled by the special mixing of Japanese and Malaysian culture. Sushi King’s ability to adapt Japanese food to Malaysian tastes has allowed us to be widely accepted, reaching 105 outlets with a presence in almost every state in Malaysia. We are proud and honoured to be recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the largest sushi chain restaurant in Malaysia and with the support of Malaysians, we have been able to hold on to this record since 2000. Thus, we want to share our happiness and blessings by giving to the less fortunate and also celebrating our love for Japanese food. Making the 70-foot long maki roll with so many hands involved was a meaningful gesture for us, and was doubly meaningful as we could then share food with all the people around us,” said Tan Sri Konishi.

He added that the Sushi King chain is on track to achieve Halal certification, following application in March earlier this year. Currently, approximately 90% of the outlets have been certified Halal and some new outlets are in process of certification. “At Sushi King, we have always used only ingredients from Halal-certified suppliers as our brand focuses on providing fresh, good, healthy, safe and high quality food and service to Malaysians. With this Halal certification, our loyal and supportive Muslim customers can continue to enjoy our food without any worry or hesitation. Jessie Chung l 1st English EP "There You Are"

Jessie Chung 1st English EP launching

Dr Jessie Chung, a Malaysiam international singer, actress, and entrepreneur, launched her first English EP ‘There You Are’ recently. She has already taken on the Chinese market with great success. Dr Jessie was spreading her wing by launching her 1st English EP that feature three songs “There You Are”, “Drive My Heart” and “Someplace Honest”.

Dr Jessie’s artist manager in Australia, Jonathan Timm had listened to this three songs in the album, and he loves them. What’s really different about these songs are that these songs are big songs, I can hear them being played like in the stadium. They are like anthems, and I think that it will be something really for the fans to get behind and sing along to and jump up and down to. The music video is awesome.

In a speech during the launch of the newly improved Friso Gold formulated milk powder, Saw Chooi Lee, Managing Director of the Dutch Lady Malaysia pointed out the company's commitment in rolling out this new formulation with cutting-edge processing technology that ensures the nutrient in milk is not overheated during processing and preserved in its natural and easily digestible structures. According to consultant dietitian Indra Balaratnam, the level of heat used in food processing can affect digestibility. "Food cooked at the right temperature is easier to digest. This applies to formula milk as well. Milk is typically processed with high heat, but, this actually damages the original structure of the nutrient." "Damaged nutrients are not easily absorbed by children's intestines. Worse, it may lead to indigestion and stomach discomfort such as colic, constipation or hard stools," explained Balaratnam. She added that children with digestion problems tend to easily agitated, disinterested in playing and lack of appetite.
