Splash Out Langkawi the island’s first water theme park is the perfect spot for adrenaline enthusiasts. Inspired by coastal architecture and a nautical theme, this water park has thrilling rides, delicious bites, and a bounty of keepsakes. The park which borders the sparkling Andaman Sea occupies a 12-acre park in Kuah Town, just 15 km from Langkawi International Airport.

The RM60 million project was launched by the Halim Mazmin Group in 2019. Halim Mazmin Group founder Tan Sri Halim Mohammad says “The Jewel of Kedah is a yearround destination for domestic and international tourists, and we have no doubt many will flock to Langkawi during the upcoming holiday season. However, many families often find it difficult to balance the interests of both parent and child when selecting attractions.

Splash Out Langkawi has thrills and spills for everyone regardless of age while offering visitors a unique way to experience the island. It is sure to be a thrilling experience for the whole family and an ideal year-end holiday destination to make long-lasting memories with your loved ones.”

Let your screams out as you race down at a speed of 50km per hour and drift across a tilted funnel-shaped surface with kaleidoscopic twists. It goes without saying water slides reign supreme here. Journey down the Splash-Tacular where hydro jets boost you up a sudden incline at top speed or venture into the intergalactic Poseidon’s Revenge for an immersive experience through dark tunnels coupled with visual effects.

Splash-Twister and Splash-Python are not for the faint-hearted. These adrenaline-pumping rides will have you spiralling down like a rollercoaster. To really give your heart a workout, check out Shipwreck Falls, among the most extreme rides here featuring sharp drops, steep uphill climbs, and a splashing finale. If speedy rides and sudden loops are not your thing, the Rainbow Rider is an exciting experience that is perfect for all ages.

Take a Time-Out Even the most hardcore park visitor will need a break to replenish their energy. The Seafarers Haven Food Court offers a wide range of quick and delicious options from fast food favourites to burgers to local delights – you will be spoilt for choice. For quick bites, recharge at the East India Coffee & Tea Company, where pastries, cakes, and hot beverages deliver instant sugar and caffeine boosts, or swing by one of the F&B kiosks around the water park for snacks, fruit juice or a refreshing scoop of ice cream.

To keep hydrated, Refuel is a convenient pit stop which offers juices, sodas, and isotonic drinks. Your journey is not completed without a visit to the Bass Harbour Outpost and Supply. Here, visitors can get their hands on exclusive Splash Out Langkawi souvenirs and merchandise such as toys, accessories, fashion items and more.

The unveiling of this particular research project on sun bears shows reflects the development of conservation educational programs between Sunway Lagoon and Sunway University.

Sun Bear

All Asian bears are threatened by habitat loss and poaching for body parts that are commercially valuable for traditional Asian medicine and cuisine.

The collaboration between the university and Sunway Lagoon is to create greater awareness among visitors of the problems faced by sun bears and to inspire action that will help to conserve our unique native wildlife.

Sun Bear info

There are two subspecies of sun bears in Malaysia, the Malayan subspecies (Helarctos malayanus malayanus) is found in Peninsular Malaysia and the Bornean subspecies (Helarctos malayanus euryspilus) is found in Borneo. It is relatively difficult to differentiate between subspecies based on physical characteristics, although Bornean sun bears are smaller on average; therefore, research on the species’ phylogeny is important. Sun bears are listed as Totally Protected Wildlife under the Second Schedule of our Wildlife Conservation Act 2010.

Dr. Shyamala collaborates with Dr. Jactty Chew, a faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences, Sunway University. They’ve obtained funding from Sunway University, Lancaster University, and three years of funding from the International Association for Bear Research and Management (IBA) Grant for their research on landscape characteristics and population genetic structure of Sun bears in Malaysia.

One of the projects aims to assess genetic variation of sun bears in Malaysia, and Sunway Lagoon is pleased to contribute genetic samples from the sun Bear in the wildlife park. Together with other samples offered by PERHILITAN (Department of Wildlife and National Park) and BSBCC (Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre), the first study to evaluate genetic divergence between peninsula and Bornean subspecies has been made possible.

CREATIVE FABER-CASTELL’S BACK TO SCHOOL STATIONERY TO NURTURE CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION OF CHILDREN

Faber-Castell Malaysia launched its ‘Back to School’ campaign this year with the focus on nurturing the creativity and imagination of children. The company believes that this will in turn, stimulate the brain development of young children.

According to Mr Andrew Woon, Managing Director of A.W Faber-Castell Malaysia Sdn Bhd, choosing the right stationery products is an important contributing factor to the brain development of young children. “A good stationery set will enhance their learning experience and also improve their fine motor skills."

Tri-Grip pencils and Grasp Crayon for example, were invented with practicality and grip comfort in mind so that children would love using them and this will also pique their learning interest,” said Woon.

Bearing the quality and the R&D tenacity of a German brand, Faber-Castell products are designed and developed after years of research, resulting in ergonomic designs. With its products, Faber-Castell aims to offer creative experiences that will delight and inspire customers.

This year’s Back to School campaign themed Castle Heroes, features a male character named Bernard and a female character named Cassandra. Both these Castle Heroes characters will inspire children to use their imagination in conquering obstacles and challenges.

Four inspirational Castle Heroes sets are introduced in conjunction with the Back to School launch. They include an essential school set containing complete stationery items that one would need, a drawing set coupled with a set of creative drawing cards, a mechanical pencil set and a 3-piece eraser set.

Apart from the Castle Heroes sets, Faber-Castell Malaysia is also introducing several Back to School sets, promotional sets and gift sets which are ideal as gift for the holidays.

Among them are also new innovative products such as the ‘Colour to Life’ Augmented Reality Colouring Book with Connector Pens; My Colour Companion First Grasp Crayons coupled with a colouring book – designed especially fortoddlers aged three to four years old; and also an attractive Colour Design Tri-Writing triangular pencils which is perfect for writing and drawing.

‘Colour to Life’ is Faber-Castell Malaysia’s latest digital application to bring colouring and drawing to the next level.

The set comes with a colouring book, a set of coloured connector pens and an app that makes the characters in the book come to life with colours.

This Augmented Reality colouring book is the first of its kind by a stationery company.

The Back to School launch event also saw the participation of 24 children, aged 4 to 16 from the Trinity Community Children’s Home. The home is also sponsored with a year’s supply of stationery items by Faber-Castell Malaysia as part of their corporate social responsibility programme.

The public can also look forward to several activities, which will inculcate creativity in conjunction with this year’s Back to School campaign such as the ‘Spot, Snap and Win’ contest as well as on-ground colouring activities and creative Tack-It workshops at selected mall locations nationwide.

To make things more interesting for its customers, Faber-Castell Malaysia is also collaborating with KidZania to offer special discounts for KidZania entry tickets with the purchase of the Faber-Castell Slim-Flexi or Watercolour pencils.

A single receipt purchase, entitles customers to purchase up to four tickets with 35per cent discount from 1 November to 31 December 2019 and a 40 per cent discount from 1 January to 31 March 2020.
